Tales of a Broken Heart" is a true story. Marcelo Illarmo began 2003 just a writer/comedian/waiter/telemarketer, using his university degree to its fullest potential. Five days later he was in the hospital, diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
"Tales of a Broken Heart" chronicles Marcelo’s initial shock, his hospital adventures, the ramifications of his illness, and his confrontation with mortality. Marcelo transforms from a happy go lucky twenty-something to a man unable to complete household chores, unable to eat his two favorite substances, salt and caffeine, and even unable to raise his left arm over his head. Before the audience’s eyes, Marcelo wrestles and ultimately conquers weakness and depression with the only weapons he has, his sense of humor.
Written by Marcelo Illarmo and Greg Reimann, the show has had several successful productions, including sold out runs at ImprovBoston and a series of charitable fundraisers on Marcelo’s native island of Guam.
